Gary Peterson (Skokomish), MSW, is a tenure track professor in Native Studies at the Evergreen College in Olympia, Washington. He has 20 years of experience with the Indian Child Welfare Act and helped negotiate the Washington Tribal-State Agreement. He is an experienced trainer in cultural competence and ICW and has trained in Washington, Idaho, and New Mexico during the last year for NICWA. Gary’s strengths include cross-cultural communication, intergovernmental relations, and experiential teaching. He has served as an elected official of his tribe including several terms as tribal chair. He also serves as the chairperson for the Child and Family Welfare Committee of the Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians.
