Dolores Jimerson is Seneca, Bear Clan on her father’s side and Irish-Italian on her mother’s side. She was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania where she worked in an urban Indian center and then later started her journey working in the mental health field. Dolores spent many years in Wyoming working with both state and tribal governments in mental health. She is the previous director of the Northern Arapaho tribe’s System of Care: With Eagle’s Wings, a program that blended culture and tradition with mainstream mental health services to restore balance to families of the Wind River Indian Reservation. This enriching experience prepared Dolores to join NICWA in 2005, where she now leads technical assistance to tribal communities planning children’s mental health systems of care as well as those who are implementing these models of services. Prior to coming to NICWA, Dolores consulted and trained nationally on cultural competency with a special focus on historical trauma and unresolved grief.
