Fannie Black (Yup’ik) is the director of operations at NICWA. She began her career at NICWA as project support for a variety of NICWA projects, including Government Affairs and Advocacy and Community Development projects. She earned her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Portland State University (PSU) in 2005. During her time at PSU, she was an active member of minority student groups and a leader in the American Indian Science and Engineering Society as co-president. She was a 2009–2010 LEAD Fellow and a volunteer mentor for Native youth at ChristieCare. Currently, she serves on the Native American Student and Community Center Advisory Board at PSU as co-chair and is pursuing her master’s degree in engineering and technology management, with a focus on project and organizational management.
