To implement the President’s deregulatory initiatives under Executive Order 14192 and Executive Order 14219, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is planning the largest deregulatory effort in the history of the department. To facilitate these efforts, HHS published a Request for Information to elicit public comment from all interested parties on how to deregulate across all areas within HHS’s purview. HHS is also seeking input on how regulations, guidance, paperwork requirements, and other regulatory obligations can be repealed.
NICWA is urging Tribal Nations and advocates for Native children and families to submit comments addressing the impacts of deregulation on Tribal human service programs. To support comment submission, NICWA has developed a sample letter that underscores the significance of deregulation as a means to enhance program efficiency and effectiveness, while advancing the principles of Tribal self-governance. Our comments also include examples that recognize the critical role of federal regulations in improving policy and services to Native children and families and promoting partnership between state and Tribal governments. Please feel encouraged to adapt the sample letter to reflect the specific experiences and needs of your community.
Public comments must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. ET on July 14, 2025.
